The first thing that comes to your mind when you think about Andaman and Nicobar islands will be beautiful beaches and crystal blue waters. What many do not know about these islands is that it holds a historical landmark which is a symbol of true patriotism and love for the nation.
Cellular jail or also known as Kala Pani was built in 1896 in Port Blair during the British rule to banish the lawbreakers or freedom fighters who went against the British government.
The jail comprised of multiple solitary cells (hence the name cellular jail) with seven wings where the face of one wing faces the back of the other wing serving the purpose of complete solitude for the prisoners. Now only three wings stand as the rest were destroyed in the course of time.
A visit to this declared National Memorial will ignite the patriotic fire within you as you will get to know all the horrifying and agonising stories of the prison inmates.
